EDITORIAL: Cruel Lessons
What should have been a simple, joyful classroom tradition turned into a lesson no child should ever have to learn. A Grade 7 student, excitedly carrying home what he thought was a “heavy” Christmas exchange gift, instead unwrapped cruelty—a hollow block and a blouse meant not as a joke, but as humiliation. This incident, now viral, is painful not because of the object itself but because of what it represents: the casual normalization of bullying, the ease with which ridicule

A People-Centered Christmas Party for Volunteers
After attending several Christmas parties in recent weeks, I felt a growing uneasiness—and a bloated stomach. I knew it was the food. Pork, beef, and chicken dominated the tables. Enjoyable, yes, but undeniably heavy. Last December 20 offered a refreshing alternative. At JaimEliza Diner & Store in Baras, Canaman, the Christmas table was filled with ocean-, river-, and plant-based food—light, natural, and energizing. It was proof that celebration need not come at the expense o

Today, a Great Light has Come
By Fr. Roy Cimagala MERRY CHRISTMAS to all! On this most blessed and joyous day when we liturgically celebrate the birth of the very pattern and savior of our humanity, it is most apt to echo as often as we can this gospel acclamation in one of the Masses of Christmas. For, indeed, what can be a light better than him. That is why we have to be most wary of today’s many lights that can offer us some convenient and advantageous chunks of knowledge but can subtly lead us astray.
